Bio

I am an Advanced Teaching Fellow and PhD candidate in Rhetoric and Composition at Georgia State University (GSU). My research interests include digital pedagogy, developing and teaching online English courses, and professional development. I have more than eight years of university teaching experience, including six years of online teaching.

Before beginning my doctoral work, I was a member of the faculty of West Georgia Technical College in Douglasville, Georgia. In this position, I taught courses ranging from basic grammar to literature and technical writing, and I also served as a student advisor. I had the opportunity to develop and teach online courses, and I became an active member of the Online Teaching Committee. As a Face-to-Face (F2F) and online instructor, I had the opportunity to apply adult learning theory and explore its intersections with digital pedagogy. This experience led to my interest in collaborating with other faculty to use online learning tools effectively.

As a PhD candidate at GSU, I have continued to develop my interests in composition and digital pedagogy.  The courses I teach as an Advanced Teaching Fellow include Composition I, Composition II, and Business Writing. I have presented my research at many conferences, including Computers and Writing and the Conference on College Composition and Communication. My administrative experience has expanded to include planning conferences, writing and collaborating on technology-related grants, and serving on the Assessment Committee. I am currently drafting my dissertation, which examines how to address opportunities for the advancement of online learning more effectively by considering the material conditions in which online instruction and learning occurs.

In the future, I look forward to continuing to develop innovative classroom assignments that offer opportunities to critique the mediation of lived experience through technology. I also look forward to collaborating with faculty members to use online teaching tools most effectively. My research and background in digital pedagogy, online learning, and professional development—as well as my extensive teaching experience—make me uniquely qualified for instructional, training, and administrative roles.
